What is “Beyond Organic” ?
We use this term to describe the meat and vegetables supplied by Bisley Fine Foods and mean produce similar to what is now known as organic - only much better - full of texture, succulence and flavour.
The term organic is based on the concept that a healthy environment significantly benefits crops and the health of those consuming them. It is about a farming regime that respects natural ecological balances and maintains the health of the soil and the ecosystems in which crops and livestock are raised. There is growing concern about the effect of antibiotics in meat on human health.
However, the term 'organic' is commonly used as a kind of “catchall” representing pure, unsullied and natural produce. Unfortunately, it portrays a high standard that it does not necessarily deliver.
Our suppliers work with nature to produce the best food “naturally” – they are very aware of the seasons and do not see the need to “tinker with nature”. Therefore, what they do is not only good for you but also good for the environment, as biodiversity preserves the fertility of the soil, improves water quality and allows wildlife to flourish.
Our suppliers agree with us that promoting exceptional animal welfare not only means happy and healthy animals but also makes sound commercial sense. The welfare of their animals is paramount.
Why buy food for your family from a local, traceable source
such as Bisley Fine Foods?
1. Because it's healthy with No nasty additives
Scientific research has shown that food which has been produced in this way contains higher levels of vitamin C and essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron and chromium, as well as cancer-fighting antioxidants. Whereas food produced using chemicals may contain residues of the up to 400 pesticides routinely used in conventional farming. It is thought to contain additives, which can make the body susceptible to heart disease, osteoporosis, migraines and hyperactivity.
We have always believed that “organic type” food is much better for you as it boosts the immune system and helps to protect you from cardiovascular disease.
2. We have High standards
Our products only come from trusted sources. All our farms and food producers are inspected at least once a year. This is not European law – it’s what we insist on doing.
3. Care for animals
We take animal welfare very seriously and regularly visit all our producers. We are looking for farmers that take into consideration the natural behaviour patterns of the animals, allowing their animals to range freely outdoors taking advantage of a natural diet. Animals are a very important part of a sustainable farming system.
4. Good for wildlife and the environment
Our farmers maintain hedgerows in the old fashioned way; the meadows are a haven for birds, small animals and insects, ponds and other natural habitats also attract a wide variety of wildlife. Bodies such as the Soil Association have carried out scientific studies, which show that the number and variety of bird, butterfly and wild plant species tend to be much greater on farms that have been organic for some time.
5. Taste the food NOT the flavouring
Our customers say that they prefer locally produced food because it tastes better. We eat it ourselves !
6. Support your local independent producers
Use them or lose them. |
