Before supermarkets, the Sunday roast had lived its life locally, grazing on herb-rich pastures, untainted by artificial hormones and pesticides. The vegetables that accompanied it were also grown nearby and you ate what was available in that particular season. It was eaten for its taste – not what it looked like.
